Admission to public universities in Turkey is more difficult than admission to private universities. Admission requirements vary among universities. We can divide undergraduate universities into five sectors: <\/p>

Y\u00d6S sector:<\/strong> These are universities where students are required to take only the university’s Y\u00d6S exam or one of the Y\u00d6S exams administered by other Turkish universities, such as Istanbul University, which only accepts its own university’s exam, unlike some other universities, such as Gaziantep University, for example, which accepts its own exam as well as the Istanbul University exam.<\/p>

International Testing Sector:<\/strong> The student must take one of the international tests, such as:<\/p>

SAT or ACT and\/or AL tests of British high schools such as Hacettepe University and Bo\u011fazi\u00e7i University.<\/p>

Local and International Secondary Schools:<\/strong> Accepts Arab and local secondary school certificates, in addition to certificates from the second sector (the international examinations sector). However, this type of university gives priority to students from the second sector during application.<\/p>

Fourth sector:<\/strong> accepts certificates from both the first and second sectors, such as Yildiz Technical University.<\/p>

Fifth Sector:<\/strong> Accepts all degrees such as Yedrim Bayezid University, Ankara University, Karpuk University, and Sakarya University, but this type of university gives priority to students from the first and second sectors.<\/p>

Admission to medical departments in public universities:<\/p>

This requires a great deal of effort from students, as most public universities only accept students with Y\u00d6S or international certificates and scores close to 100% on the Y\u00d6S exam.<\/p>

Public universities differ in their application opening and closing dates, results and registration dates. Some universities open applications for two weeks in May, while others open them in June or July. However, in general, the first public university to open its doors for applications begins in the last week of April of each year, and the last public university closes its applications on the first day of the last week of September. <\/p>
